Wisdom teeth can grow at odd angles, only partly break through the gum, or get trapped beneath the gum and bone. This may cause swelling, pain, and illness.
Not only does regaining teeth allow you to eat anything, but dentures also look natural and maintain your face's shape. With dental implants, you can show your pearly whites off with pride!
Severe tooth decay, impacted wisdom teeth, or to make room for braces are some of the reasons for single or multiple tooth extractions.
Before being fitted for a partial or complete denture, some patients require minor oral surgical procedures to minimize discomfort.
Your mouth is normally lined with smooth, coral-pink skin called the mucosa. If you notice any changes in this appearance, it could be a warning sign of a pathological process, such as oral cancer.
An impacted tooth is "stuck" and non-functional. Wisdom teeth are the most commonly impacted teeth, and patients usually have them extracted since there's no functional purpose for wisdom teeth.
Over time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies. This often leaves behind a lack of bone quality and quantity suitable for dental implants. In these situations, bone grafting becomes necessary to grow new bone in the affected area.
3D dental imaging is a process that uses an X-ray arm that captures images from different angles and sends them to a computer. The computer then puts the images together in three dimensions.

Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars most people get in their late teens or early twenties. Wisdom teeth can be a valuable asset to the mouth when they’re healthy and properly aligned. However, it’s highly likely that they’ll be misaligned or impacted, causing many problems.
Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, crowding, and infection. They’re also more difficult to keep clean, leading to decay and gum disease. Wisdom teeth removal is the best way to prevent these problems from occurring.
Dr. Yanich has extensive experience in wisdom teeth removal. Yanich Oral Surgery will work with you to ensure that the procedure is as smooth and painless as possible. Contact us today to learn more about wisdom teeth removal or to schedule a consultation! Wisdom teeth removal in Marion, OH, has never been easier!
Dr. Yanich will always thoroughly examine the wisdom teeth and those surrounding them before any procedure. To evaluate the position of your wisdom teeth, he takes panoramic or digital X-rays. This will also help diagnose any current problems and what potential future problems might exist.
Not everyone will require wisdom teeth extraction. But if your wisdom teeth are causing problems or are likely to cause problems in the future, it’s best to have them removed. Here are some indications that you need you a wisdom teeth extraction.
If your wisdom teeth become impacted, it may cause crowding of your other teeth. This usually affects the front teeth, particularly the lower front teeth. Wisdom teeth removal prevents any potential long-term damage to your other teeth, gums, and jaw bone.
The most common clinical issue we see is pericoronitis –– a localized gum infection. If there isn’t enough room for the wisdom tooth to erupt fully, the surrounding gum tissue can become irritated and infected. This results in recurrent pain, swelling, and difficulty chewing and swallowing.
Wisdom teeth can cause problems when they come in, like pushing on other nearby teeth if there isn’t enough room. They can also hurt and be uncomfortable if they don’t grow properly. Not to mention, improper growth increases the chance of infection.
Wisdom teeth removal typically takes about an hour to complete, but this will vary for each patient. Here’s an overview of what you can expect:
Majority of our wisdom tooth extractions take place under general anesthesia to ensure you're comfortable throughout your procedure.
Our oral surgeon, Dr. Yanich, will make an incision in the gum tissue to access the wisdom tooth.
After removing your wisdom tooth, Dr. Yanich will then clean the area and close the incision with stitches.
After the procedure, Dr. Yanich will provide at-home care instructions to ensure proper healing.
If you have any questions or concerns, our team is always available to help. We want you to feel comfortable and confident with your decision, and we’ll do everything we can to make the process as smooth as possible. Give us a call today to get started!
Apply a cold compress to your face for 20 minutes to reduce swelling. Do this as often as possible for the first 24 - 48 hours after surgery.
If you experience bruising, allow it to dissipate on its own. Avoid using makeup or other products that could irritate the area.
It’s essential to take it easy for at least 24 hours after your procedure. Avoid strenuous activity and exercise, as this can cause bleeding and swelling.
Be sure to brush and floss your teeth carefully avoiding the extraction site. Dr. Yanich may recommend a prescription strength mouth wash or salt water rinse to be used twice per day. Over rinsing will cause dry socket.
Stick to soft foods for the first few days. Gradually add solid foods back into your diet once you feel comfortable. Avoid hot drinks, alcohol, and smoking.
We may give you a prescription for pain medication, but over-the-counter options can also be effective. Be sure to take the medication as directed.
